Year 5 have been learning about the Tudors in History this term and we brought this to life with a Tudor Day. Children (and teachers) came in costume, sporting their homemade armour, and spent the day doing a range of Tudor activities: cooking meat and manchet over the fire; baking jumbles and cooking pottage; fencing; learning to be a tailor; calculating with Tudor money; learning by rote and quill writing. It all tied together with our English work on A Midsummer Night’s Dream as we listened to Mendesssohn’s overture and took to the Elizabethan theatre as actors performing monologues. This super team have worked so hard today and, despite having fun, most decided they would rather not live in Tudor times!
