To begin their work on division this week, Year 4 took their maths lesson outdoors! At various ‘stations’ on the school field, there were different objects to be divided equally into hula-hoops. For example, there would be 12 rugby balls which needed to be shared into 3 hoops. After they successfully divided them into equal groups, they joined back together to look at how you divide when there would be a remainder.
The stations then changed to interpret leftovers as remainders, as well as writing the calculation in full on a whiteboard.
To finish, children had quick fire mental division and some could even calculate remainders quickly in their heads.
